About

I was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia and I spent my entire life there until I moved away to New York City to attend college in the fall of 1997. At the time, I had it in my head that I would become a film producer. However, after my first year and my first taste of the entertainment business, I became a little uncertain as to whether that was the direction I wanted to take my life.

The summer after my freshman year, I spent a lot of time sitting in front of my laptop simply surfing the Web. I had always had a slight interest in computers that mostly stemmed from bulletin board system (BBS) experiences I had when I was in high school. Back in those days, I spent much of my free time chatting with friends on a local BBS using an old Apple IIe and, later on, my dad's old 286. However, I didn't delve much further into the computer world other than what was required for me to get into teleconference.

My interest in computers didn't become seriously sparked until I purchased my first laptop just before I left for college. Within the first week after receiving it, I managed to format the hard drive and then had to teach myself how to rebuild it. During the course of my freshman year, I continued to learn all sorts of new things about my computer. But, the summer after my freshman year was a significant turning point. Out of boredom, I spent a lot of time surfing the net. Then, seemingly out of the blue, I decided I wanted to learn how to build a Web page. That led me to take some multimedia courses during my sophomore year and then changing my focus from film production to digital media.

I graduated from Marymount Manhattan College in 2001 and applied for a Webmaster position with John Tyler Community College (JTCC) in Chester, Virginia. At the time, I honestly didn't think I was qualified enough for the job, but they apparently saw something in me and decided to offer me the job. During my first year with JTCC, I completely redesigned their Web site and subsequently won a couple of awards for my work. In April 2005, I completed a second redesign which increased the overall user friendliness of the site and again, took it to a whole new level.

Since leaving JTCC in the spring of 2005, I have continued to build my skills in design and development by working for companies such as Health and Hospital Corporation and Walker Information, both based in Indianapolis.
